United States Congresswoman Anna Eshoo

SAN FRANCISCO, California — United States Congresswoman Anna Eshoo will be the featured speaker and guest of honor at the tenth Narsai's Taste of the Mediterranean fundraising dinner and gala on Saturday, December 8 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in San Francisco.

Anna Georges Eshoo is the U.S. Representative for California's 14th congressional district, serving since 1993. In 2003, Eshoo was elected by her colleagues in the 108th Congress as an At-Large Democratic Whip, and she has served in that position to the present. She is a ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, the first woman in the history of the Subcommittee to serve in a leadership position, and she is a co-chair of the Caucus on Religious Minorities in the Middle East.

Currently the only Assyrian American member of Congress, Eshoo has worked diligently to protect indigenous Assyrian Christians in Iraq from continuing religious persecution and political exclusion. She authored an amendment to H.R. 2601, the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, requesting that "special attention should be paid to the welfare of Chaldo-Assyrians and other indigenous Christians in Iraq."

The Narsai's Taste of the Mediterranean series of fundraising dinners began in 2002 and has raised over $1.5 million for needy Assyrians and humanitarian projects in northern Iraq.
