What is a RSS feed?

Website news feeds are also known as RSS and allow you to see when websites have new information. The name is an acronym for 'Really Simple Syndication.' Basically, the feed is simply a text file created by you or your website management system containing new information about your website and resides on your website.

Benefits of a RSS feed

There are many benefits of using RSS feeds for both website administrators and Internet users. Administrators enable their websites to be RSS-capable to promote their new information to visitors who subscribe for FREE to their website feeds. People usually subscribe to a website's feed and then use a RSS Reader program or an online Google homepage to view the new contents from those websites.

Another convenient feature of RSS is the ability to share a feed with other websites, for example within the Assyrian Community section. There are daily updated feeds being displayed from various Assyrian websites and news organizations.

Create a new RSS feed (file)

The easiest way to create a new RSS file for your website in order to share your new content with others, is by copying the XML RSS 2.0 sample file and then follow these steps.

Copy this sample RSS file to your computer by right-clicking on the link, then choose "Save Target As..."
Open the RSS file and edit the Title, Description, and Link information to match your website information using any editor, such as Notepad
Enter your Titles and Links as new items of any website pages currently on your website, as many as you wish to share with other websites
Save the file as rss.xml and then transfer it to your website's root directory, then test it by viewing it online using your Internet Browser software: http://www.yourdomain.com/rss.xml
or by using the W3C Feed Validation Service
On your main website page, add the following "link rel" line within the <HEAD> ... </HEAD> section of the page to notify Internet Browser programs of your new RSS feed. Once this line has been added to your index.html, the RSS button on your Internet Browser program will appear in color to signify there is a RSS feed available on your website.

Assyrian \ã-'sir-é-an\ adj or n (1998) 1: descendants of the ancient empire of Ashur 2: the Assyrians, although representing but one single nation as the direct heirs of the ancient Assyrian Empire, are now doctrinally divided, inter sese, into five principle ecclesiastically designated religious sects with their corresponding hierarchies and distinct church governments, namely, Church of the East, Chaldean, Maronite, Syriac Orthodox and Syriac Catholic. These formal divisions had their origin in the 5th century of the Christian Era.
