Meeting with The Hon Chris Bowen MP

Sydney — On Friday, 23 January 2015, a meeting was arranged by the Assyrian Universal Alliance (AUA) between The Hon. Chris Bowen MP, Federal member for McMahon, Shadow Treasurer and Mr Albert Moshi, Commander of the Dwekh Nawsha forces in Northern Iraq. Mr Moshi is currently visiting Australia as a guest of the Assyrian community in Australia.
The delegation was headed by Mr. Hermiz Shahen, Deputy Secretary General of The Assyrian Universal Alliance and included Mr. David M. David, Regional Secretary of the Assyrian Universal Alliance –Australia and New Zealand and Mr Nabeel Yawanis representative of the Assyrian Patriotic Party in Australia.
Mr Shahen briefed Mr Bowen about Dwekh Nawsha (which translates as ‘self sacrifice’) and introduced Mr Moshi. Mr Moshi expressed his gratitude to the Shadow Treasurer for the opportunity to meet with him. He stressed the urgency and importance of the Australian government’s help in delivering aid to Assyrian IDPs. He expounded the significance of Australian assistance in providing logistical training for Assyrian fighters on the ground, proper weaponry and financial assistance in order to maintain and defend themselves against the Terrorists.
An official letter and some detailed reports were handed to Mr Bowen by Mr Shahen highlighting the current situation of Assyrian refugees and the mounting number of threats facing this indigenous culture.
Mr Bowen showed a lot of concern regarding the tragic situation facing the Assyrians in Iraq and promised to do his best to get the message across to the Australian government.
The delegation thanked the Shadow Treasurer for the meeting and for his sincerity and continued support over the years in raising the Assyrian issue with the Australian Government. Mr Moshi presented Mr Bowen with a Dwekh-Nawsha emblem as a token of appreciation.
