I am writing in response to your E-mail regarding the arrest of Fr. Yusuf Akbulut in Turkey. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom is concerned about religious freedom in Turkey and continues to monitor the situation there.

The Commission monitors religious freedom abroad and recommends changes in U.S. foreign policy to promote religious freedom. While it is not equipped or authorized to advocate on behalf of particular individuals, the Commission welcomes any credible evidence of religious persecution from any source.

We have referred Fr. Akbulut's case to the Department of State's Office of International Religious Freedom, with a request that they investigate and keep us apprised of their findings in the matter.

I hope this information will be of help to you.
