FRIENDLY PERSIANS DEFEATED

News has been received in London that the Jelus, a Christian tribe which is aiding the British force in the new theatre of operations in Persia, has been defeated in the area west of Lake Urumiah by the Turks, who have taken the town of Urumiah. This has led to a whole-sale emigration of the Jelu population, who were closely pursued by the Turks until a force of British cavalry, which was sent out to escort them, dispersed the enemy and enabled the fugitives to escape without further molestation.
