NATIVE LEVIES IN MESOPOTAMIA

Mr. FISHER , Minister of Education (English Universities C.L.), who replied for the India Office, informed LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER KENWORTHY that steps had been taken to raise and train native levies in Mesopotamia. There were 13 units of levies sanctioned each under a British commandant. There were 6,223 non-commissioned officers and men, nearly half being mounted, and 67 officers. There were two more units under consideration. The native levies were Arabs and Kurds.
