Official Ankara should recognize the Armenian genocide, Francois
Rochebloine, the vice-chairman of the Armenian-French group of the French
National Assembly told Armenian journalists today. Francois Rochebloine is
the author and the initiator the Armenian Genocide Resolution, which was the
basis of the French Armenian Genocide Law.
Rochebloine said that Turkey would have no chance of becoming a member of
the European Union should it fail to recognize the Armenian genocide.
Answering a Snark correspondent's question about the negative consequences
of the French recognition of Armenian genocide which negatively affected the
French-Turkish relations, Rochebloine stated that the relations will be
normalized in the near future. "Even if this happens, France as a human
rights champion is obliged to give priority to moral issues, which is the
recognition of the Armenian genocide and restoration of historical justice,
over the economic matters", Francois Rochebloine noted.
The French politician was in Armenia on an unofficial visit. During the
visit Rochebloine met the Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Speaker of
the Armenian Parliament Armen Khachtryan and also visited the earthquake
zone and Nagornyy Karabakh where he held a number of meetings with the
Karabakh authorities.
