"Relations between countries should be established on the basis of
neighbourliness, not resolutions recognizing any genocide," Israeli Deputy
Speaker Mikha'el Nudelman, who is the head of the Israeli-Azerbaijani
parliamentary friendship group, told MPA news agency when commenting on
Armenia's activity to achieve worldwide recognition of the "Armenian
genocide" [the killing of Armenians in the Ottoman empire in 1915]. The
diplomat believes that such resolutions arouse national dissension. The
deputy speaker said that unlike Armenia, Israel did not "push" the genocide
of the Jewish people through parliaments of other countries and
international
organizations, including the UN.
Asked about the possibility of this issue being considered in the Israeli
parliament, Nudelman said that this would damage relations with Azerbaijan.
