Armenian genocide November 12 2001 The genocide on the Armenian people by the Young Turks in 1915 will never be forgotten. But open recognition and condemnation of this genocide by present Turkey seem miles away. Many other states, including the Netherlands, would rather not burn themselves with an open condemnation of the genocide on Armenians. To support the political battle for open recognition artistically, the in Holland residing Armenian Rouben Malayan has launched an action. In an open competition artists around the world, Armenian or not, are invited to join the poster contest. Whoever designs the most appealing poster with the theme of the genocide on the Armenian nation, will be considered for a prize. His or her poster will also be multiplied and spread across Europe and the US in the days around April 24 2002: the date on which Armenians have commemorated their genocide for more than eighty years now. The poster will be printed in English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew and Armenian. Anyone who wishes to know more about Malayan's action or even wants to financially support the project, can find information on the website https://www.ArmenianGenocidePosters.org. More than 10 impressive posters have been posted by now, of which one by graphic designer Malayan himself. That presenting the first prize will be very difficult, is already evident from the first entries.
[Note: 25 posters will be voted for by the public via the net for distribution. Prizes are not involved. --NH]
