Malek Rama Lakhouma, a musical by the young Assyrian composer Edwin Elieh set to the poem by the late Hannibal Alkhas, will open this exciting program. The music is commissioned through a generous grant from the Assyrian Culture Fund under Dr. Eden Naby Frye. A company of 15 singers selected from across California will perform what promises to be an exhilarating display of Assyrian music. The second part of this memorable evening will center on Assyrian songs of the 1970s composed by Vania David with lyrics by Misha Ashoorian. Edwin Elieh’s orchestral arrangement of this heart-warming music was commissioned by a generous grant from Monica and Vladimir Moghadassi. The Mesopotamia Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Kendal Bailey will accompany the renowned Assyrian singers Tony Gabriel, Lazar Malko, Salem Sefo, Rita Touma Davoud and Jowan David. Silent and live auctions will offer a colorful variety of art by Hannibal Alkhas, Issa Benyamin, Paul Batou, Youbert Lazar, and Fred Parhad. Guests of honor Vania David and Misha Ashoorian will receive the Mesopotamian Achievement Award. Wine and hors d'oeu-vres will be served prior to performance.
