Assyrian is running in the Parliament of Armenia electionsPosted: Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11:11 AM UTC The representative of the Assyrian Community of Armenia is running for the Parliament of Armenia On May 6, 2012 elections will be held in the National Assembly of Armenia. The Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA), which is also taking part in the elections, suggested that the President of the Federation of Assyrian Organizations of Armenia “Khayadta”Irina Gasparyan should run for the Parliament of Armenia by the party list as a non-party candidate. She is one of the first in the party list. We’d like to thank DPA for showing good will as it is the first time that a representative of the Assyrian community will take part in parliamentary elections of the country. The characteristics of political processes in the Near East made it necessary to have a representative of the Assyrian nation on a political level. We’d like to remind you that as a result of parliamentary elections in Turkey in summer of 2011 Assyrian Erol Dora became a deputy for the first time in the history of that country. We hope that the reinforcement of the Assyrian deputy assembly will help to raise the problems of the Assyrian Nation for the international public and create the necessary mechanisms for the preservation of the Assyrian nation and their rights’ protection in their historical motherland. We wish the Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) success in the upcoming parliamentary elections of the country and we hope for active support of DPA by the Assyrians of Armenia, as well as of other countries.
