Assyrian Committee for Civic Responsibility hosts Political Candidate Forum in Chicago
There are over 100,000 Assyrians in the Chicago area. As many Assyrians are originally from Iraq, we are very concerned and vocal about the current situation between the US and Iraq. In every Middle Eastern country, we face persecution for our ethnicity and Christianity. Consequently, even our Aramaic language, the same language spoken by Jesus Christ, faces extinction. Since many Chicago-area Assyrians fled the Middle East to escape persecution, we are lobbying our representatives here to push for democracy, freedom, and recognition for Assyrians living there. Feeling as though we have been overshadowed by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we have organized and local politicians are taking notice. Elected members of the Illinois legislature, the City of Chicago (including 6 Alderman), and Cook County officials have confirmed their attendance at our Political Candidate Forum. In addition, several U.S. Senate candidates are invited.
Join us on February 9th, and watch history unfold. Sincerely,
Nadia Joseph |
