Genocide Resolution Passed by House Committee WASHINGTON--In a vote of 24 to 11 the House International Relations Committee approved the Armenian Genocide resolution Tuesday. The measure was voted on following an ammendment changing the text of the resolution. The language was changed from the original "Young Turk government" to "the Ottoman Turkish government."
Sources in Washington said the vote was an overwhelming defeat for the
Turkish lobby and entities opposing the resolution. A member of the
Turkish parliament also presented testimony opposing the resolution but
to no avail.
