Armenian foreign minister calls for dialogue with Turkey over "Genocide" Noting that they want to start a dialogue with the Turkish government on the Armenian genocide, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan has said: "For us, the issue is political and not historical." In remarks he has made regarding the matter in Strasbourg, where he has gone to take part in the European Council of Ministers meeting, Oskanyan has said: "We are proposing to Turkey the starting of a process far from all eyes and without any publicity. Turkey's acceptance to take part in this dialogue is not tantamount to this country's acceptance of the Armenian genocide." Replying to 'Milliyet's questions, Oskanyan has said that they are against the holding of the dialogue among experts and historians. "For us, the issue is political and not historical. Our historians have already proved the occurrence of genocide with irrefutable evidence," Oskanyan has said. Oskanyan has said that they are pleased with the French Senate's adoption of the resolution on the Armenian genocide, adding that a historical fact has now been proclaimed. Oskanyan has added that they are not behind the initiatives of countries like France and the United States regarding the matter.
"The children of the generation that have survived this genocide are living
in these countries. These children are trying to have the genocide accepted
by the governments of the countries where they are living. We do not
interfere in their endeavours," Oskanyan has said.
