EU should suspend political contacts with Turkey New Speaker (President) of the Turkish Parliament belongs to a Fascist Party The official suspension of all political contacts with Turkey was demanded by the Society for Threatened Peoples International (GfbV) in letters to the ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union, EU extension commissioner Guenther Verheugen and the president of the European parliament. " The national movement MHP, the party of the newly elected president* of the Turkish parliament, represents a fascist program still today", justified Tilman Zuelch, president of GfbV International, the demand of the human right organization on Friday in Goettingen. "The participation of this party in the present government coalition and the election of Oemer Izgi as parliament president* are against the efforts toward democratization and protection of minorities, as they are required from Turkey." Izgi had become generally accepted with 264 to 262 voices on Wednesday. The MHP, having been the political wing of the "grey wolves" for two decades now, demands the propagation of Turkism and the establishment of a Pan-Turkish empire called "Turan", which is to reach out until China. "This is a ethnic-nationalistic ideology of a well-known pattern", said Zuelch. Since its participation in the great coalition headed by the social-democratic Prime Minister Buelent Ecevit the MHP has advocated the enforcement of the death sentence against the Kurdish worker's party chairman Abdullah Oecalan and the introduction of new laws against the use of the Kurdish language. In the 80?s, Oemer Izgi who was born in the city of Konya in 1940, was an attorney for the deceased leader of the "grey wolves", Alparslan Tuerkes. Izgi?s wife, Ayse Izgi, was chairman of UELKUe Hanim, the conspirative "women?s organization" of the "grey wolves", until 1980. Izgi had been suggested by the MHP chairman Devlet Bahceli for parliament presidency after the candidacy of Kamil Turan for the office of the president had proven as offering no prospects. The latter had translated and published Hitler's book "my fight". In his preface he had praised Hitler for the "exact analysis of those times".
Until 1980 the "MHP" and "grey wolves" were responsible for the targeted murder of 5,000 opposition members and/or Kurdish politicians, trade
unionists and journalists", said Zuelch. 1984-1999 activists of this fascist movement belonged to the secret "counter guerilla" organizations, which had been
set up by the Turkish army, the ministry of the Interior and the secret service for the war against the PKK. In some documented cases they took part in the
destruction of Kurdish villages (officially altogether 3,428) and driving their inhabitants out. As firm constituent of the present political elite of Turkey the
MHP prevents the clearing-up of those crimes and a reconciliation with the minorities of the country.
