Armenia welcomes Italian parliament's recognition of genocide Yerevan, 20th November: Armenia's Foreign Ministry welcomes the adoption by the lower house of the Italian parliament of a resolution on recognizing the genocide of Armenians which took place during the Ottoman empire in 1915-1923, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Minister, Ara Papyan, said in a statement received by Snark news agency today. The statement says that the resolution, as well as confirming an historical truth and giving a correct assessment of events which took place at the start of the century, also provides an opportunity to overcome the difficult legacy of the past and to create favourable preconditions for the establishment of regional cooperation. Recognition of the Armenian genocide by the Italian parliament shows that Europe is conducting a single common policy.
In response to the Italian parliament's call, Armenia confirms its
readiness to start a dialogue with Turkey on various issues, the
Armenian press secretary stressed in his statement.
