Slanderers

The Turkish tabloid "Takvim" titled their headlines on Monday "Slanderers". The get up picture shows the delegates of the Bundestag, Monika Brudlewsky (CDU), Angelika Graf (SPD) and Claudia Roth (Greens). The subtitle demands: "Make these slanderers shut up!"

The reason that set the ball rolling was a press conference of the delegates of the Bundestag committee about human rights this Sunday in Ankara, "unbelievable claims" made by the "ugly Germans". Even the Turkish Foreign Secretary considered their statements "crap".

It is not that the Turkish people have been annoyed by the Germans' accusations that they had been spied on like in old GDR times, but rather the Germans' criticism about how the Turks treat minorities and handle human rights.

According to Cem, the Turkish Foreign Secretary, Claudia Roth acts like a "Colonial Governor". She demanded a guarantee of free-dom of speech and press, the abolition of the death penalty and an improvement of the situation of minorities in this country.

The fears of CDU delegate Monika Brudlewsky regarding the Christian minority in Turkey is commentated as follows: "She has discovered yet another minority."
