Monika Brudlewsky, delegate of the CDU and member of the Bundestag sub committee for human rights and four others members of the council went on a one-week journey to Turkey to get an impression on the situation of human rights.

The Turkish government surveyed each of their steps, took down each word and filmed them with two cameras from the front and the back. Such an approach to parliamentary guests tells a lot about how human rights are evaluated in that country.

The delegation's estimate is that little has been improved:

  • "political" prisoners are still tortured routinely =
  • 60 cases of death sentence this year alone
  • four Kurdish provinces are under military occupation
  • devastating situation of the Christians, they suffered "discrimination of the worst kind"
  • no hope for human rights?

To Claudia Roth what has been achieved is: "Now they are talking about it."
