Foreign Minister says abduction of Greek Cypriot a 'terrorist act' Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has described the abduction of a Greek Cypriot by the Turkish occupation forces "a terrorist act and a violation of international law" and expressed "grave concern" about reports that Panicos Tziakourmas is in ill health and was taken to hospital on Wednesday night. The minister said he was satisfied with the way Britain, on whose territory Tziakourmas was kidnapped, was dealing with the matter and trying to secure his release but added he would like to see their efforts intensified. Britain has retained two military bases on Cyprus since 1960 when it granted the island its independence. He said he has instructed the republic's embassies in European Union member-states to inform EU capitals about Tziakourmas' illegal detention and has asked Cyprus' permanent representative to the UN to protest the illegal arrest.
The government is also making demarches to the Council of Europe and
other international organizations such as Amnesty International and
Human Rights Watch.
