German Armenians Request Parliament To Consider Genocide Resolution ISTANBUL (Marmara)--The Armenian community of Germany has requested the German parliament put forward a genocide resolution entitled 'The Time Has Come To Recognize The Armenian Genocide.' Several establishments have come together in support of this legislation, including Germany's Armenian Center Executive Body, Armenia's Reportage Center, the Institute of Armenian Affairs, the Armenian Association of Berlin, and the Association of Armenian Workers. The request presented to the German parliament was also signed by the "Popular Organization Against Massacre", whose president, Ali Ertem, is of Turkish origin.
A Berlin correspondent for the Hurriyet by the name of Ahmed Kyulahci reported the department responsible for accepting the request is not likely to allow the
resolution to come to the floor. A representative of the Socialist party, who has refused to disclose his identity, stated the German parliament is not the forum where
the Armenian Genocide issue should be discussed. He said it is up to historians to look into such matters. Therefore, he doubts the resolution will be introduced in
parliament, especially since according to him, other political parties seem to agree with the Socialists.
