Turkey Warns Germany and France about Armenian Genocide Resolutions

YEREVAN (Reuters, Armenpress, Marmara)--The German Parliament has received a warning from Turkey for failing to reject last week's request for the passage of an Armenian Genocide resolution. The request was signed by over 4,000 Armenians, Germans, Kurds, Georgians, Azerbaijanis, and various international academics and artists.

Attorney Tessa Hoffman, a longtime supporter of Armenian issues, said Germans from the eastern section of the country are more aware of Armenians and Armenian issues than western Germans. Yet she feels German parliamentarians will use common sense and adopt the resolution soon.

It was also reported in the Cumhuriyet that the French government will not interfere with the Armenian Genocide resolution measures being taken in the French Parliament.

In response to a warning letter sent by Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, French Foreign Minister Vedrine stated the issue should not enrage Turkey. A Turkish parliamentary delegation was in Paris January 5 to convince French parliamentarians to drop the resolution.

The resolution is expected to be put on the agenda for the January 18 session of parliament.
