Yerevan 22 January: The seeming improvement in Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as the activization of a number of Western powers aimed at gaining recognition of the Armenian genocide, is occurring mainly according to a US scenario, Musheg Lalayan, political representative of the initiative group of the Armenian Resistance Movement, has said in conversation with a Noyan Tapan correspondent.

According to him, the USA aspires to rule in this region and understands that in order to oust Russia from the region, Armenian sympathies towards Russia need to be "extinguished". Musheg Lalayan said that in order to achieve this goal, the USA thought it necessary to weaken the Armenians' fear of Turkey which had its roots in history. In the opinion of the authors of this model, Armenian-Turkish relations need to become "friendly" and economic, ideological and cultural rapprochement between the two peoples needs to take place. In this context, the Armenians and the Turks will find themselves on a field of universal Western values. According to an estimate by the authors of the model, in the absence of a Turkish threat, Armenian vigilance will weaken and they will no longer expect anything special from Russia, Lalayan said.

"What is being done now by both Turkey and sometimes the Armenian authorities and some figures from the Armenian diaspora mostly keeps within the American scenario," Musheg Lalayan said. According to him, this project's implementation cannot be ruled out in principle. First, there is a common opinion in Armenia according to which economic cooperation with Turkey is worth establishing. In addition, there is also an opinion that the recognition of the genocide and the problem of western Armenia eastern Turkey are not taking place at the right time.

"The Armenian-Turkish rapprochement threatens Armenia's security and the further existence of our people," the representative of the initiative group of the Armenian Resistance Movement said. In his opinion, there is a need "constantly to deal retaliatory blows against this aggression which is being carried out from outside and this needs to be done jointly, i.e. the authorities, the opposition and the people must act together on this issue".
